their apartment is still only half-furnished, not as lived-in as it should be. their bed is a double mattress on the ground. isa's in no rush to furnish the place. he doesn't mind sleeping inches from the ground, bodies tangled and sheets always slipping. what really gets to him is this - it's almost four in the morning, virgil is on his phone. even with his back turned isa can see the glow of the screen. "what the fuck is wrong with you?" the mattress groans as isa turns around, props himself up on his elbow, reaches out to bat the phone from his hand. VIRGIL MARION |

as isa attempts to swat virgil's child (phone) out of his hand, virgil thinks about how at least he had the common courtesy to plug in his earbuds. he could've let isa live with the sound of his seemingly never-ending keyboard clicking. despite the interference, virgil keeps his eyes on the screen of his phone as he taps the screen, attempting to keep in time with the song. love live is fucking serious, and he has an sr card to get. so he doesn't bother to reply to isa's question and continues to play. the music is gone suddenly, but virgil doesn't miss a beat. he's got the songs on lock and the words memorised. isa's voice makes it a little harder to concentrate but he's still got this. for all his bad habits, it's a miracle isa can stand virgil. sometimes, he can't. sometimes virgil seems like a dog he's trying to train. the smirk, the look on his face makes isa simultaneously want to fuck him up and straight up fuck him. sighing wearily, he rubs at his face - it's too early for any of that - he'll have to be up in a few hours. isa sits up, and abruptly backhands him across the jawbone. "look," he snarls. "i work this fucking dead-end job so you can prance around the fucking internet all day, and this is the thanks i get? not even a fucking night of sleep." VIRGIL MARION |

it stings, for a second, but all there are more echoes from childhood days in his ears. do it faster, work harder, stop falling behind. slaps on his wrist, face and arms, he remembers it fondly despite the pain that comes. perhaps this is why he's okay with isa, because physical force means nothing to him except an over-used product for punishment. isa has never been needy or attention starved, but he wants nothing more than to watch virgil's phone take a swan dive from the balcony. it feels like the longer they're together, the more they twist into funhouse mirror reflections of their flaws. maybe he should be conscious of it, maybe it should be something he wants to control or cease. his eyes narrow - he should know virgil is only trying to get to get him, the entitled brat he is. and he lets him. actions speak louder than words. isa takes the phone from his hands, and with a flick of his wrist, like this is something well practiced, lobs it into the dark. it hits, probably dents, the wall with a dull thump. the thud echoes in the apartment and virgil keeps himself steady. he distances himself, his phone is important (his baby, his whole world, his lifeline) but obviously that's not the real problem right now. but then again, he pauses in thought, what is the real problem? he'd be lying of he said he was expecting a different reaction. he picked his battle and now he's paying the price. he glances at isa, "man, i'm glad i bought that case."ISA KRISTOFF |

it should be more satisfying than it is (the next morning, there is a black mark). part of him expects virgil to get up, to go pick up the damn thing, and he's almost tensed in anticipation, coiled like a snake, waiting. when he doesn't move, isa sighs through gritted teeth. it's a chance to suck out the poison and he just looks at him blankly. he should sleep, but he wants a cigarette. he should say something, but he wants to go back to sleep.
