purpose in the long strides. the sidewalk turned catwalk. he lowers dark sunglasses, peers over the top at a familiar face. “well, well, well. if it isn’t isa kristoff. long time no see. still a scumbag?” he winked, golden lashes fluttering. slender arms coil around the taller man like serpents ensnaring a mouse. “how the hell have you been? i haven’t seen you in ages. still think about me at night?” ISA KRISTOFF

he's trying to do something a little more constructive with himself, or at least something that isn't illegal. he spends a lot of time at the gym, trying to burn off his rage. it helps, a little, but it doesn't tire him out as it should. anger isn't a feeling but something as constant and familiar as a hearbeat. isa's lips curl into a snarl and he's already got his hands fisted in ari's shirt, before he recognizes him. abruptly, he releases, steps back. "what are you doing?" he says, as if he doesn't remember, though there's a sour recognition in his eyes. ARI WOLFF

"whoa, down boy." he's grinning madly like the cheshire cat. "no biting." he leans close enough to whisper. "we can save that for the bedroom." distance spreads between them. ari looks up at him through tinted lenses. he hasn't changed at all since london all those years ago, years before ari wolff was a household name. still the same isa, just a little older. "don't pretend you don't know me. how could you forget the first man you fucked? oops, did i say thay outloud?" ring glint on the fingers that rise up to hover over his red stained lips. "still pretending you're straight?" ISA KRISTOFF

ari's smile is dizzying - red lips, white teeth, bejeweled laughter. isa is faintly aware his gym bag is on the ground now, and he hitches it back up onto his shoulder, so he's doing something, so he's not floundering. he almost wants to laugh - he couldn't pretend, not if he tried, that he didn't know ari. that some days he didn't bite his tongue and still find ari's aftertaste on it. instinct is to grab ari, instinct screams to grab him, but isa takes another step back. for a moment he feels feral, watching himself from the outside, unsure of what he'll do if touches ari again. it's never been about what people think, but they are staring and isa feels his jaw tighten. "i have a boyfriend."ARI WOLFF

there’s chemistry between them, always was. now there’s frustration and unresolved feelings. ari still hasn’t forgiven isa for breaking it off. no one breaks up with ari wolff. “cat got your tongue? or did you forget how to talk all together?” the passersby stare, some stop to do the same. tension built up between them sparks, ready to ignite. how much longer before they give in to primal urges? isa’s never been one to control an impulse, and neither has ari. “a boyfriend” an eyebrow raises from behind the large frames. b“you’re asshole. you broke up with me because you couldn’t come to terms with liking dick and now you have a boyfriend?” his voice rises, shrill then plateaus. “break up with him. i’ll give you another go.” ISA KRISTOFF

isa doesn't even think they were every really together. they stayed together in this tiny industrial loft and ran the club circuit, fucked each other senseless, fell into a tangled heap, rinse and repeat. before ari's name was smacked across billboards, before isa looked up at his pictures, half-naked in magazines and could still fill in the rest with his memories. (he can still imagine what's under ari's clothes, and he looks him over with a heavy-lidded hunger, his hold tightens on the strap of his bag) isa wants to shut him up in sordid ways, he wants to choke him and tear at him and most of all he wants to be done with him. he's done with this conversation. "fuck off." he turns on his heel, heads for his car. he wants to be home with the only thing standing between him and ari. ARI WOLFF

tantalizing, ari dangles himself in isa’s reach. but he’s chained. a dog on a leash. he laughs. “moody as ever.” he follows. fear is unknown to him, though he should know better than to provoke. but he’s never known isa to hit him. he was rough but never violent. “what’s holding you back?” ISA KRISTOFF

the crowd parts, ari follows the path he hews. he's not remotely surprised, but he is slightly relieved (and terrified) to get out of the watchful eyes of the crowd. he shoves his bag in the backseat to take up the space, to negate that option. he slams the driver's side door shut behind him, but he doesn't lock the car or start the engine. he stares out the windshield at the blistering sky. elbows braced against the wheel, he twists his fingers in his hair. "i told you, i have a boyfriend." isa says. "i didn't think you were the type to come back for desperate seconds." really, he isn't sure why ari is back, why he hasn't moved on to bigger things and better people. ARI WOLFF

doors don't keep him out, unlocked. he sit facing isa in the passenger seat with white teeth flashing. "and? its easy to dump one. just send him a text. unless," he pauses, letting the stretch of quiet serve its purpose. "you've settled down. do you plan to get married too? didn't think you were the settling type." his amber eye glint, corners crinkling with the growing of his smile. confined, no escape. the space between them shrinks. red lips part, tempting. he brushes fingertips over the fabric of isa's pants, no shame. "does he taste as good as me? does he make you hard like i do?" ISA KRISTOFF

ari's fingertips trace the seams of his sweatpants, and isa grabs his wrists, yanks it away sharply. "my sex life is none of your business." he turns to meet his eyes, a remarkable coldness in his tone (for the flames dancing beneath his skin, he can feel ari's pulse). "you aren't a part of it. you aren't going to be."he releases, his eyes flicker over the red ring, the indian burn, and back to looking straight ahead as he starts the car. maybe he has settled, but not into anything calm and domestic - isa doesn't have it in him. "where are you headed? i'll drop you off." and never see you again. ARI WOLFF
