there's a chaise in the corner of the room, and isa stares past it, out the window, wondering if anyone ever actually uses it. therapy isnt about laying back and crying and talking about dreams. it's about sullen silence, he's sitting on the couch with his arms crossed. it's silent but for the crinkling of paper as nevada skims the reports, and there isn't a stitch of regret in isa when he thinks of what's in it. method to the madness, as the expression goes. it applies in some abstract way to isa’s reliance on force, his solution to his problems. “you use violence as a coping mechanism. it is easier to inflict physical harm than take harm onto your psyche.” his eyes lift from the papers he’s sorted through over and over, offering him no new insight. “violence is your method of controlling when control is lost.” ISA KRISTOFF |

this has always been a waste of time - he's heard it more than enough, he's savage and in the wrong. "it works, doesn't it?" isa nods towards his rap sheet in nevada's hands. if you aren't born revered you have to force it. nevada commands respect with his framed licenses and certificates, his cold analysis and expensive furniture. and isa is no different, simply more practical, hewn of a rougher base. this doctor is not gentle and positive, and isa doesn't know if it's for better or worse. he eyes the paperweight on the edge of his desk and imagines its weight in his hand (like a fucking overpriced rock). "you think you have control with your fucking mind games?" pretending he knows the first thing about isa. he's not stupid - he's self-aware, knowing full well that he is impulsive, but knowing most importantly that he is surviving. cold, maybe a little callous. he doesn’t sugarcoat. words fall raw and piercing off his tongue. “this is not about me, mr. kristoff. we are meeting because of your assault and battery charges.” calm despite the tension, despite the way isa’s eyes wonder to the paperweight on his desk. “you have not made any progress. in fact, you have additional charges that were added this past week. do you recall the judge’s orders?” court orders brought isa to his office, the threat of jail time motivation. what brings clients in is of little interest. yet in this case, it’s important. isa goes quiet. he's probably lucky that friday didn't put him into jail. he thinks it's pretty fucking hilarious that this guy, telling isa his aggression will get him nowhere, is sitting there coolly threatening him. he doesn't say anything, only adjusting his position. he settles back into the seat, arms crossed, as if he's making himself comfortable, very grudgingly. one phone call will land isa with pair of shiny bracelets and an extended vacation in jail. nevada doesn’t to resort to that. no progress means he may. it means isa is a danger and needs to be off the streets. “that is much better, mr. kristoff.” no smug smile, not even a detectable twitch of his lips. “we will begin today’s session by discussing methods to control your anger and suppress your impulses. i had hoped we were well past this, however, you have proven my faith in you misplaced.” he folds his hands on the desk, papers pressed flat beneath his forearms.
