you picked up guitar as a child and you fell in love with rock music as a teenager. it was a difficult juxtaposition, being in garage bands while living in a city best known for country music. when your lyrics didn't talk about women, beer or tractors it was hard to gain traction, and none of your projects really seemed to work out. sure, you'd have popular shows but it was nothing beyond that, and the dream of getting signed was all but dashed.

but you had a chance to leave. it was hard, nashville was all you had ever known. you were close to your parents, your two little brothers and your dog...but you knew that music was something that was the beginning of your future, and no one in their right mind would throw away a chance at signing to idle records, not even for seemingly sentimental reasons.

you and your band made the audition and signed the paperwork. sure, some of the established fans cried about selling out, but there were troves of new fans to replace them. you actually had money in your pocket, you played on stages in front of thousands. it was the music dream you'd always been imagining since you strummed a child-sized, torino red stratocaster.

and now you live in canada. the snow is cold, the winds are bitter but the business is sweet and the money is sweeter. you've always loved the spotlight, you were born to bathe in it. but you can only wonder how long your 15 minutes of fame will really last. that scares you more than anything else.
