"i'm ready for the change, meet me in blue sky" | his briefcase lies flat on the coffee table. its exterior doesn't betray the interior, of course there's nothing inside other than two half abused a5 exercise books and a stack of brand new playing cards. flakes of mud come off his tattered leather shoes; glitter the sterile floor. will fiddles with his fingers, picks at dry skin and clips at the whites of his nails. the clippings fly with no remorse, his watch carries on ticking. he rolls his shoulders, tries to sit like a five year old trying to find a sweet spot on a stiff, wine coloured waiting room sofa. [googlefont="Esteban"] she's come out of a meeting, shaken all the hands and finished business. after a week in tahiti, ruth is behind on everything, still not yet in the stride of work. weary. (she's supposed to have returned refreshed, wasn't she?) ruth gives a pleasant smile and an even more pleasant goodbye. the office door closes behind her with a click, and the elevators ping when their doors shut behind her back. tangible little noises that make her shoulder slump and her smile falter because she's not in the midst of her work anymore. she wants to be at home; she checks her watch. it's rush hour and home won't be for a while. glancing up, she sees the only person in the waiting room. ruth's steps slow, then stop. "william?" WILLIAM HURST
