He should've read the sign. He should've done it. But did he? No way. It didn't help that his English wasn't that great and forget about knowing Chinese or French.
He was too busy looking around to notice the giant slab of wet concrete or the sign that clearly stated that it was wet and to avoid it. But now, his shoes were sunken down into it.
At least he wasn't the only one. Yasha glanced up and saw another in the same situation as him, but the young man didn't smile. "Why did you not warn me?" He asked, his accent about as thick as the concrete they'd stepped into.

people always moan and groan about people being too involved with social media, virgil is one of the people who defend avid social media users. being one himself it only made sense.
however, in situations like this, he almost regrets being so involved in social media. if he hadn't been looking at his phone, he would've noticed the signs in bright yellow and orange saying wet cement. of course, he didn't with his eyes trained on his phone, and here he is.
quite literally stuck with a stranger, who - apparently - thinks he was paying any attention. (he wasn't, he was on birder again, but he's not really going to admit that).
"i thought it'd be funny," he says. "the next best meme to go on the internet, y'know?"

A meme? "Seriously?" He scowled, rolled his eyes, and looked around the area. He figured standing in the cement wasn't a smart idea. At least he could work his way out.
With a tug, he pulled, but his foot seemed to suck down into the cement deeper. "What's this?!" He exclaimed. "It is like... quick sand." He looked up at the other, frowning pitifully.

virgil laughs, not because he finds it funny (really, he doesn't) but because what else is there to do in this situation. there really isn't much to do but wait until someone gets them out but, then again who knows when that'll happen.
he meets the other guy's gaze with a raised eyebrow, "it's cement. i don't think there'd be quicksand in the middle of a city."

"I know it is cement," he replied with another frown, almost rolling his eyes again as well. "But it drags me down like quicksand. More I struggle, more it pulls me in." As he spoke, he moved his hands around, motioning towards the wet cement. "Are you stupid?"

"then stop struggling," he says simply. he's not, so he's not sinking in. if it acts like quicksand, then treat it like quicksand, virgil thinks this is obvious, but apparently not. he laughs again at the are you stupid? "probably, are you," he asks casually.
