there is never enough seconds in the day, never enough hours in the week. it was a 'i'm sorry, i'm busy that day' last week and a 'sorry let me just finish this, can i see you later instead' on the monday of this week.
emily will tell herself she isn't annoyed, isn't angry, but sometimes even mind can't go over mind.
in the cafe, the day remains slow.
a tattered novel sits next to her tea set. emily stirs her nearly cold tea with a spoon and pretends she isn't waiting for anyone.
she is not next to the window, but nonetheless, she can hear the rain. it all comes down at once, pelting down mercilessly. imagining the horror of the people outside is enough to prove one shouldn't forcibly give pets showers, emily thinks.

luca has a coffee in hand and an apology somewhere on his person, but upon seating himself across from emily he seems to forget what exactly he had in his arsenal. still, in theory it was probably better to show up like this rather than vomiting a torrent of sorries.
"it's depressing," he said, gesturing to the rain out in the street. it was sprinkled on his shoulders and sparkled in his hair. "but with you sitting here, it's downright morbid."

an untrained eye would suspect her leaning closer to him was a sign of tentativeness. the curl of her lips certainly doesn't seemed to betray that 'intention'.
"no 'hi emily, it's nice to see you?'" her tone is mocking, her eyes narrow. "it's as if you want to go back to second name basis." she leans back, chuckles darkly. at least he's not offering her a rain dance of excuses.

"hi, emily. nice to see you." luca wasnt often a smartass, he liked to think, emily being the exception today, apparently.
"sorry. the stars aren't in alignment or something. today is a weird day. i feel it in my gut." he leans back and shrugs.
"i'd say back to black, but you're already there."
